Daryl Hall and John Oates launched a comeback effort in 1997 with Marigold Sky, but few paid attention – partially because the time wasn't right, partially because it wasn't the right album for a comeback. Six years later, the duo tried it again with Do It for Love and, remarkably, it all clicked. First of all, the climate was ripe for a Hall & Oates reunion, not just because the group was subjected to a flattering episode of VH1's Behind the Music, but because their longtime fans and '80s nostalgiaics alike were warm to the duo's hooky, sophisticated, effortlessly enjoyable blue-eyed soul. Then, there's the fact that Do It for Love is their best album in 20 years, even if it has very little to do with the sharply modern new wave-soul of Private Eyes and H2O. Although it sounds like neither, this hearkens back to the sensibility of both Abandoned Luncheonette and 1975's eponymous debut for RCA, where the emphasis was on the songwriting and the productions understatedly served the song.

"Music for the holiday – sung with taste and authority!" That's how RCA Victor described the 1962 release Christmas with Eddy Arnold, the superstar entertainer's first holiday album. Whether the style was country or pop, Eddy Arnold always sang with taste and authority – as well as tremendous warmth and a big heart. Between 1945 and 2008, "The Tennessee Plowboy" notched 147 U.S. chart hits, sold over 85 million records, and earned inductions into the Country Music Hall of Fame and The Grand Ole Opry. The music of Christmas was near and dear to Arnold's heart, and between 1949 and 1967, he recorded two dozen holiday favorites for the RCA Victor label. Now, every one of those seasonal sides has been collected by Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records on The Complete RCA Victor Christmas Recordings, including the complete Christmas with Eddy Arnold album produced by Chet Atkins and featuring Nashville's finest musicians. This first-ever compendium of Eddy Arnold's yuletide music boasts his own "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S" and "Will Santy Come to Shanty Town," along with Boudleaux Bryant's "Christmas Can't Be Far Away" and family favorites such as "Up on the Housetop," "Winter Wonderland," "White Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock" – all rendered in the timeless, smooth Arnold style.

In the '90s, Blue Note assembled numerous compilations – everything from Brazilian jazz to an album of jazz artists interpreting Beatles gems. Many of those compilations tended to favor Blue Note's classic '50s and '60s output, but the focus of this 1994 release is Blue Note in the '80s and '90s. And all of the material is solid; that is true of performances by Young Lions like pianist Benny Green (Freddie Hubbard's "One of Another Kind") and tenor saxman Javon Jackson ("I Waited for You"), and it is true of the contributions of established veterans such as saxman Sonny Fortune (who performs an alto/piano duet with Kirk Lightsey on Thelonious Monk's "Reflections") and pianist McCoy Tyner (who teams up with vibist Bobby Hutcherson on Monk's "Blue Monk"). Most of the tracks are acoustic hard bop or post-bop, but Blue Note Now! enters the fusion realm with John Scofield's funky "Do Like Eddie" (which features the late Eddie Harris on tenor sax). Naturally, there is a selection by Joe Lovano, who was among Blue Note's most celebrated artists in the '90s. The very flexible Lovano has never had a problem excelling in a modal post-bop environment, but his version of Booker Little's "Rounders Mood" is pure bop and finds the saxman forming a two-tenor front line with Joshua Redman.

The man behind some of the most urgent, delirious and seductive house music ever made. As everyone learns, history can be cruel. Back at the dawn of the 1990s, the embryonic French dance scene (sometimes known as "French Touch") was built by a bizarrely sparse tangle of hands: Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, Air, Phillipe Zdar aka Cassius, Bob Sinclair. Yet there’s one producer who’s been pitilessly overlooked. Étienne Bernard Marie de Crécy was a draughtsman whose foundations still prop up the likes of Justice and the Ed Banger label with frictional aplomb. De Crécy has been behind some of the most urgent, delirious and downright seductive house music ever to escape from across the channel. Readers of a certain vintage might, when reading or hearing the name Superdiscount, experience spontaneous pupil dilation. And so they should, at the thought of his lurid, filtered and thematic compositions scattered across this tasty five-disc set, collecting material from de Crécy’s 20 years of work.

Soul Jazz Records are proud to present this new collection of music from the great Fashion Records, one of the most important and iconic independent reggae labels to come out of the UK, running from 1980 for nearly 20 years. In that time Fashion released hundreds of records that successfully reflected - and indeed set - the changing styles and perspectives of reggae music in the UK, from UK dancehall and lovers rock in the 1980s through to the mighty rise of jungle in the second half of the 1990s.

Fire It Up is the twenty-second and final studio album by Joe Cocker, released on 6 November 2012 by Sony/Columbia in Europe. It was recorded at Emblem Studios Calabasas, California and like Cocker's previous album, Hard Knocks, it was produced by Matt Serletic.

The daughter of the late bluesman Johnny Copeland steps up to the plate with this, her debut album for the Alligator imprint. Although only 19 at the time of this recording, Copeland comes to this album with a mature style and vast amounts of assuredness. While comparisons to Koko Taylor and Etta James will be plentiful, Shemekia has enough tricks up her sleeve to make this a disc well worth checking out. Eight of the 14 tunes aboard are co-written by producer John Hahn and strong musical support is summoned up from guitarist Jimmy Vivino, with guest turns from Joe Louis Walker and "Monster" Mike Welch, while the Uptown Horns show up on three tunes, including the title track. Highlights are numerous on this disc, but special attention should be paid to Copeland's "Ghetto Child," a nice cover of Don Covay's "Have Mercy"; Walker's "Your Mama's Talking"; and the strutting "I Always Get My Man." This is one very impressive debut.

Best of Bill Evans 1977–1980 is a well-curated portrait of the pianist’s final creative phase, with standout live performances and carefully chosen studio pieces. It’s a compelling gateway into Evans’ later years, showcasing complex textures and heartfelt expression beyond his iconic '60s trio legacy.

Cerrone has been a musical icon beyond Disco for five decades. He keeps inspiring the greatest names of electronic music and improving his way of playing and creating music. With 'Disco Symphony' Cerrone revisits in a symphonic way 21 of his greatest hits performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Cannes, directed by the legendary Randy Kerber. Also featuring Cerrone himself on the drums and an additional bass-guitars-keyboards band playing with the orchestra. Merging the power of electronic music, the groove of Disco and the lyrism and unique touch of a symphony orchestra, in respect of the club Culture Cerrone was born in and with.

Influences is the debut solo album by the British musician, Mark King, who is the singer and bass player with Level 42. It was released by Polydor Records in July 1984. The album features a cover of the song "I Feel Free" by Cream, which was released as a single. King played most of the instruments on the album. Guest musicians include Level 42 keyboardist Mike Lindup and Drummie Zeb from Aswad, who played drums on "Clocks Go Forward".

Orange Mountain Music presents the world premiere recording of Philip Glass' The Passion of Ramakrishna. Commissioned by the Pacific Symphony and premiered in 2006 during the opening of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, Glass' 45 minute oratorio, written for soloists, chorus and large orchestra, is a passion play and a tribute to 19th Century Indian spiritual leader Sri Ramakrishna. The work portrays his death with the chorus taking up the voice of Ramakrishna himself and the soloists are those of his loved ones, doctor and disciples. Maestro Carl St.Clair, a longtime champion of the music of Philip Glass, leads the Pacific Symphony, Pacific Chorale and soloists Christopheren Numura, Janice Chandler Eteme, Kevin Deas, I-Chin Feinblatt and Nicholas Preston.

2019 has been quite a year for Dido. The release of her acclaimed album Still On Mind in March quickly led to her becoming the best selling UK solo female artist of the year, an achievement that came as she embarked on her first tour in 15 years. Dido is set to release a special deluxe edition of Still On My Mindon November 15th (BMG).

Obsession,the 1978 album from UFO and the last to feature Michael Schenker, until his return to the band in the '90s. This is the band's seventh record and one of their most interesting musically. With the writing partnership of Mogg / Schenker in fine form, these recordings feel more atmospheric and darker than previous outings. Obsession has been newly remastered from the original production tapes transfers at AIR Mastering.
